Perception is Everything
Perception is everything.
Electronic cigarettes, since invented a few years ago, has given untold happiness to many. A little bit of it might be the nicotine, but there's something much bigger than that; with common smoking bans in public places, cocktail parties, pubs, and gathering places have really changed. Why? We figured out the reason recently, which is: when you go to a get together and stand holding red wine to talk endlessly with people, you get tired. Sometimes you just want to stand observing, alone with your thoughts. Sometimes, you just want to stand in the corner and stare out of a window. Now the problem is, when smoking is banned, if you stand and stare out of windows on your own, you're an antisocial, friendless fool. But, if you stand and stare out of a window on your own with a cigarette or vape, you're considered some sort of philosopher…
The power of reframing things cannot be overstated. While standing and staring out of a window, with a small change in detail, one perspective defines you as antisocial while the other makes you feel unconquerable. Don’t be so preoccupied with how you perceive a problem as immovable, reframe the problem to find a solution. And, keep in mind, most of our problems, including taking a break at a social gathering, are all problems of perception.
